Hearthstone Senior Living Community Receives Grant

More than a year ago, a team of WCLS staff members representing
several departments including Fundraising, Activities, Senior
Services, Maintenance, and Transportation, submitted a grant
application to the Illinois Department of Transportation for the
purpose of obtaining a "22 passenger medium duty paratransit
vehicle." It was a lot of work followed by a long wait but in
the end it was well worth it. Hearthstone Senior Living Community has
been awarded a new handicapped accessible bus valued at $81,747!
No word yet on when it will be delivered but our residents will
soon be "ridin' in style"!

NEIGHBORHOOD COOKOUT AND FUN FAIR

WELC recently held a neighborhood cookout and fun fair. Many of
our WELC families brought their children and friends to join in
the fun along with families from the community. The children
could play a variety of games such as bean bag toss and Duck
Pond to win prizes, have their face painted, create a craft
project, and play on the playground equipment. WCLS staff
members and volunteers grilled hundreds of hot dogs to serve
with chips and soft drinks for our guests. The day ended with a
free raffle of donated bicycles. The WELC staff made sure
everyone had fun!

Thursday was International Taste Day. Residents had the
opportunity to taste a wide variety of foods from other
countries including Italian Meatballs, German Potato Salad,

NICOR PLANTING DAY AT HEARTHSTONE MANOR
|
 |
You know it is spring when the NICOR volunteers come to Hearthstone Manor to plant the annuals!
This year it
was no different. As they have for many years, a crew of
volunteers came from the local NICOR office to plant annuals
at Hearthstone Manor. These dedicated individuals were
willing to give up most of a warm Saturday morning to
beautify our courtyard gardens. They were joined by several
WCLS staff members who came in on their own time to help!

Recently Manor staff members on all three
shifts were treated to a special luncheon catered by Applebee's
restaurant. The luncheon was a gift from the family of Connie
Contugno in appreciation for the care we provided to her during
her stay at Hearthstone Manor.
