Tarts and Truffles Bakery and Catering Sponsors Hearthstone Senior Fair

Known for its Friday night fish fry’s on the historic Woodstock Square, Tarts and Truffles will be a food sponsor of Hearthstone Senior Fair August 13, 2008.  Last year Tarts and Truffles provided a complimentary lunch of chicken salad croissant, potato salad and fresh fruit to over 800 seniors who attended the event.

Volunteer and event attendee, Carol Garrett, of Woodstock said the food was so good that “I contacted them after senior fair last year for our family birthday cakes and they were delicious! Now I look forward to Saturday mornings when I treat myself to their cinnamon rolls.” Located on the Woodstock Square at 140 Cass Street, Tarts and Truffles is also home to Centerville Café and catering. Located within the bakery, Centerville Café is open to the public for a Friday night fish fry from 5pm- 9pm. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 815-338-8278.

Owner Debra Mindham said she is excited about the opportunity to support this community event and the seniors of McHenry County.  In addition to the location on the square you can find them at the Woodstock and Crystal Lake Farmers Markets on Saturdays thru October.

WOODSTOCK EARLY LEARNING CENTER AWARDED GRANT

Woodstock Early Learning Center is the proud recipient of a grant for $15,927.15 from the Quality Counts Child Care Grant Program. The grant is funded by the Illinois Department of Human Services.

The funds are being used for furnishings and equipment to create comfortable reading and dramatic play areas in classrooms for infants to school-aged children. Items will also be added to enhance math, science, literacy, and music in the classrooms. Purchases include books, microscopes, prepared slides, puzzles, and board games, just to name a few.

Dress up costumes were recently purchased from the grant funds. The children couldn’t wait to try them on and began talking about what they are going to be when they grow up.

Little Hands, Big Hearts Gala Event a Huge Success

The 4th annual Little Hands, Big Hearts gala benefiting Woodstock Early Learning Center was a huge success. More than 200 guests enjoyed a fine dinner, entertainment, silent auction, raffle and live auction, but the children stole the show.  Students from the Woodstock Early Learning Center recited Psalm 23 and sang two rousing songs.  It was a perfect visual reminder of why we were all there supporting the event.  It's all about providing tuition assistance for our student's families.

The event was held at Boulder Ridge Country Club in Lake In The Hills on April 5th, 2008. Guests came out in support of Woodstock Early Learning Center.

Many thanks to our guests, donors, volunteers and of course our sponsors:

Our Percy is Famous!

Resident Percy Swanson, 94, of Woodstock met Vanna White in between tapings of "Wheel of Fortune" shows at Navy Pier, Chicago, in March.

Meeting Vanna makes 94-year-old man's wish come true

With a smile that exuded pure joy, Percy Swanson bragged to his friends.

"I had her right here!" he said, pointing to the inside of his arm.

Friday night -- as a surprise to Swanson -- the 94-year-old Woodstock resident got to meet, hug and briefly chat with his dream girl, "Wheel of Fortune" letter-turner Vanna White.

Slightly flustered by the surprise and the swarm of cameras that followed him onto the "Wheel of Fortune" set at Navy Pier, where they're taping 15 new shows this weekend, Swanson suddenly found himself face-to-face with the woman he religiously watches on television every weeknight.
