Grief Support Group Offered at Hearthstone
GriefShare, a program to assist those grieving the loss of
someone close to them,
will begin its
winter session soon.
GriefShare is not a cure for grief; however, it provides the
grieving person with practical tools and direction for
dealing with the loss. Over the past five years more than 50
people have found GriefShare, offered by Hearthstone
Communities, to be helpful in learning to deal with the
process of grief.
The session format includes group discussion, video
presentation of helpful principles for dealing with grief
and testimonies from those who have successfully gone
through the grieving process. To register or to receive more
information call Pastor Randy Waller, Director of Pastoral
Services, at 815-321-4027.

Hearthstone Barnabas Ministry
The Hearthstone Barnabas Ministry has been developed to provide an opportunity for
alert elderly persons to develop a new relationship with a volunteer
who will visit the Hearthstone resident a minimum of once a month
(maximum weekly). The purpose of the visit is to provide
encouragement through a meaningful conversation that gives the
elderly person the opportunity to tell their story over time and to
receive validation for their life experiences.
The commitment of
the Barnabas Minister is open ended. When you feel it is time to
leave the ministry you may do so with our thanks.
Before matching a
volunteer to an elderly person Barnabas Ministers will receive
training in the following:
Understanding the eight stages of life
- How to have the best conversation
- How to use the three stories
- How to use reflective hearing
- How to talk about yourself
- How to begin and end conversations
- Understanding and helping those who are grieving
